Building Blocks of the Web

Building Blocks of the Web        This quarter, we explored the fascinating world of HTML tags, tables, exer and more. Learning how to structure web pages with headers, paragraphs, images, and tables gave us a glimpse into the backbone of the internet. It was exciting to see how small snippets of code could transform into functional and visually appealing web content.      Understanding HTML was like learning a new language—challenging at first but rewarding. The thought of creating something people can interact with on the web kept me motivated. Seeing progress in each activity and knowing these skills are practical for the real world pushed me to keep improving.      Collaborating with classmates was one of the best parts of the journey. We shared tips, solved bugs, and inspired one another with creative ideas. One of the biggest lessons I learned was the value of teamwork and that everyone’s perspective can make ...

THEMATIC OUTPUT: National Women’s Month Celebration. 2024 18-day Campaign to End

National Women’s Month Celebration. 2024 18-day Campaign to End         Violence Against Women (VAW) is a pressing issue that continues to plague societies across the globe, including the Philippines. Globally, an estimated one in three women experience physical, sexual, or emotional violence in their lifetime. In the Philippines, data from the 2022 National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) by the Philippine Statistics Authority reveals that nearly one out of five women have suffered violence from their current or most recent partner. This alarming figure underscores the urgent need for stronger legal frameworks, community awareness, and sustained advocacy. To address this, the Philippines has enacted laws like the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 (RA 9262)and observes the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women annually. These efforts aim to educate, empower, and protect women while fostering a culture of respect and eq...

Elpidio Quirino: A Visionary Leader's Legacy

Elpidio Quirino: A Visionary Leader's Legacy      Elpidio Quirino, who served as the sixth president of the Philippines, remains an influential figure in the nation's post-colonial history. Born on November 16, 1890, in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Quirino grew up in modest circumstances, but his strong determination to succeed led him to pursue a career in law and public service. Prior to his presidency, he held several key positions, including being appointed as Secretary of the Interior. His experience in governance and his reputation for diligence and integrity paved the way for his later role as a national leader. Quirino’s legacy is that of a dedicated public servant who always worked for the betterment of his countrymen, even amid political challenges.     Quirino assumed the presidency in 1948 following the death of President Sergio Osmeña, at a time when the Philippines was still grappling with the aftermath of World War II. The country was devastated—its ...

National Indigenous Peoples Month and the 27th Anniversary of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA): "Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge"

National Indigenous Peoples Month and the 27th Anniversary of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA): "Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge"      October is National Indigenous Peoples Month in the Philippines, a time dedicated to celebrating the diverse and rich cultures of the country's indigenous communities. This month is also significant as it marks the 27th anniversary of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA), a historic law passed in 1997 that officially recognized the rights of indigenous peoples to their ancestral lands, culture, and self-governance. The theme for this year’s observance, *“Mga Katutubo at Katutubong Dunong: Pahalagahan, Pangalagaan at Parangalana”*—which translates to "Valuing, Nurturing, and Honoring Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Knowledge"—underscores the vital role that indigenous communities and their traditional knowledge play in shaping both the cultural identity of the nation and...

Climate Change and Resiliency of Filipinos: Confronting the Environmental Crisis

Climate Change and Resiliency of Filipinos: Confronting the Environmental Crisis      The Philippines is undeniably one of the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world. It is constantly at the mercy of environmental changes that range from devastating typhoons and flooding to rising sea levels. The impacts of climate change are real, severe, and rapidly worsening. While climate change is influenced by both natural cycles and human activities, the escalating consequences brought about by human-induced factors—such as industrial pollution, deforestation, and urbanization—have made these challenges even more pronounced. The country’s geographic location, with its archipelagic nature, exposes it to extreme weather events that disproportionately affect the poorest and most marginalized groups, especially those living in coastal and rural areas. This vulnerability not only impacts lives and infrastructure but also threatens the livelihoods of millions of Filipinos, furthe...

2024 National Children’s Month Celebration: "Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines"

2024 National Children’s Month Celebration: "Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines"      The observance of National Children’s Month in the Philippines is a crucial annual event, allowing us to pause and reflect on the state of child protection across the country. This year's theme, *“Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines,”* challenges us to confront the serious issue of child abuse in all its forms. From physical violence to emotional trauma and sexual exploitation, children in the Philippines are unfortunately still vulnerable to many threats. While there have been positive efforts to raise awareness and implement laws, much more needs to be done to ensure that children are not only shielded from physical harm but also protected in ways that support their emotional and mental health. This national observance calls upon all sectors of society, from government agen...
